Titu Maiorescu’s visit to Târgoviște


In August 1875, Titu Maiorescu, accompanied by his wife, Clara, by daughter Lidia and by Mite Kremnitz, a family friend, visited Târgoviște, being hosted at Viforâta Monastery. Titu Maiorescu was at that moment the minister of Culture and Education, but he is also known as a lawyer, academician, essayist, philosopher, politician and literary critic.

Maiorescu visited Dealu Monastery and went to Gorgota skete in an ox-wagon. Endowed with artistic talent, he painted landscapes inspired by the beauty of these picturesque places.
